We visited my parents in Western Pennsylvania last month and had a blast at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park in Tipton, PA, which is a few miles from Altoona.
DelGrosso’s offers a water park and a ride park, and we visited only the ride park. Admission to the ride park is free if you want to buy tickets for rides.

A “Fun Pass” for all the rides and the water park costs $29.95 during June, July and August. The cost is $21.95 in May and September (includes water park in season). You can save a few bucks if you buy tickets ahead of time online. Parking is free, and there’s ample handicapped parking very close to the entrance.
Billed as the home of “Hot Rides and Cool Slides,” DelGrosso’s offers more than 30 rides and attractions plus an array of midway games. Rides include classics such as the Tilt-a-Whirl, swings, paratrooper, free fall, super spiral, big boat, scrambler, and merry-go-round, plus a couple of small/medium roller coasters, the Wacky Worm and the Crazy Mouse, and much more. There’s a whole section devoted to rides for smaller kids (generally kindergarten and preschool).
DelGrosso’s rides, water park and food stands open at 11:00 a.m. and close between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. depending on weather and crowds. The park is nearly 70 years old, but somehow I didn’t even know it existed while I was growing up in the area.
DelGrosso’s food stands offer some pretty decent fare. My dad raved about the delicious hamburger he bought. My older daughter really enjoyed the pizza we got there and thought her lemonade was tasty as well.
They do let you carry in totes or coolers with your own drinks or snacks if you desire. Most families probably won’t want to lug around anything too heavy, especially since you can’t take large items on rides with you.
One of the things we grown-ups liked most was the generous assortment of benches, many of them situated under shady trees. It was a hot, humid day, so we appreciated waiting for the kids in the shade.
DelGrosso’s park is tidy and well-maintained with clean bathrooms and friendly staff. If you live in the area or plan to visit, I recommend taking the kids to DelGrosso’s Amusement Park for a wonderfully fun time.
