HealthyWage, the company that pays people to lose weight, just announced a new program that’ll pay you to play Pokémon Go! HealthyWage’s new Summertime Stepping Challenge pays cash to participants who increase their footsteps.
This means you can make a tidy profit if you increase your daily steps from playing Pokémon Go or just by doing more walking in general. Not surprisingly, Pokémon Go players take nearly 50 percent more steps, on average, than before they starting playing the game.

HealthyWage is best known for offering cash rewards as well as social and expert support, tools, resources and goal-setting to help people lose weight. Participants join teams and pay small monthly fees to participate in weight-loss programs. They can win large cash prizes for meeting their weight loss goals.
Weight loss challenges with cash prizes are starting all the time. Companies including Fortune 500 firms, government agencies, hospitals, schools and insurers help fuel HealthyWage’s momentum by offering it as a benefit to their employees.
The HealthyWage Summertime Stepping Challenge costs $30 to enter, and participants receive motivational tips and support from former contestants of NBC’s Biggest Loser TV program. Entrance fees are pooled into a collective pot of money. During registration, you connect your fitness tracker such as a Fitbit or Jawbone to get a baseline step count.
All Summertime Stepping Challenge participants have a goal of increasing their steps by 20 percent. Everyone who hits his or her 20 percent goal wins an equal share of the pot, less HealthyWage’s 25 percent cut for administering the program. The Summertime Stepping Challenge runs from August 1 through August 30, 2016.
Pokémon Go has been out less than a month and has already become so insanely popular that it’s doubled Nintendo’s stock price. The game set a record for most downloads in its first week from the Apple App Store.
Pokémon Go, which is free to play, can involve long walks to look for Pokémons. There’s even an online calculator to find out how much weight you can lose by playing Pokémon Go.
Be careful and aware of your surroundings, though. The Internet teems with stories of players who got into weird or even dangerous situations while trying to catch ’em all. One guy stumbled onto a military base. Another player attempted to catch Pokémon while driving and hit a police cruiser.
How About You?
