You can make your own Chili’s salsa copycat recipe at home with common, inexpensive ingredients. It’s also an option for a low sugar, gluten free salsa without spending a bunch of money.
Ingredients:
- 2 10.5 oz cans tomatoes with green chilies, cilantro and lime (Rotel brand works well)
- 1-2 tablespoons canned jalapeños, diced (not the kind that’s pickled in a jar)
- 1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes, drained
- 1/2 small onion, diced
- 3/4 tsp bottled minced garlic
- 1/4 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
Instructions:
Mix all of the ingredients together and chill for a couple of hours. Use 1 tbsp of jalapeños for a milder salsa or 2 tbsp for more heat. There were quite a few leftover jalapeños from the can, so I put them in a zipped freezer bag to freeze for another time.
If you prefer a smoother salsa, you can chop the mixture in a food processor or blender before serving.
If you can’t find the tomatoes with cilantro and lime, add 1/2 tsp dried cilantro and 1/2 tsp lime juice to the recipe. This salsa makes an amazing copycat to Chili’s salsa. Hope you enjoy it!
