We all want to look our best each day, whether heading to school, work or elsewhere. How can we look our best while staying within a tight budget?
Looking great on a budget goes beyond shopping sales, buying cheap makeup and watching for coupons for Target and other stores. These five tips will help you look great while keeping beauty and clothing expenses at a low percentage of your budget.

Prioritizing
There are certain things that you’ll need to spend money on, because they last longer and represent a much larger aspect of your overall look. For example, cutting corners when it comes to your hairstylist or cosmetologist can lead to problems over the long haul when you are forced to pay more for their mistakes. Things that are more permanent are worth spending your money on.
Comparison Shopping
Avoid paying full price for clothing and beauty products if you can. This may sound like a no-brainer, but drug store hair and makeup products go on sale regularly, and matching up sales with coupons can make them significantly less expensive. You don’t have to settle for cheap makeup, either. Watch for sales and coupons for your favorite brands.
To save money on your clothes (and your family’s), see if your area offers any good nonprofit thrift stores that have nice selections of gently used clothing.
Consider a Mobile Stylist
The best stylist for your budget might be one who is an established professional, but does not have a chair in an actual salon. This provides them with an opportunity to offer you the best pricing point possible.
Using a mobile hairstylist means you can save gas money by not having to drive to a salon, and they are able to charge less, since they are not financially obligated to pay for the rental of a chair.
Look for Cosmetology Schools
Beauty school students are always in need of practice and, in many instances, they will work for next to nothing, so they can gain valuable experience. While some might be apprehensive about trusting a beauty school student with their hair or any procedure that could potentially cause harm, more benign procedures such as manicures and pedicures should work out well.
Ask About Discounts and Referral Bonuses
If you’re a loyal customer of a chain beauty shop, ask about discount coupons or reward points for frequent customers. Also, find out if they have a referral program if you tell your friends and family members about the place.
