I’m a longtime fan of dollar stores and Dollar Tree in particular. I don’t have any sort of financial connection to such stores, so I have nothing to gain by writing about them. I genuinely love going to dollar stores.
You’ll find bargains for any time of year at the dollar store, and you never know what you might find. Every store is slightly different, too.
For example, at one store, I found umbrellas and rain ponchos that another local store did not have.
And don’t forget that Dollar Tree accepts manufacturer’s coupons! They do carry some brand name products that frequently offer coupons in Sunday papers.
For example, my local Dollar Tree stores usually have frozen Super Pretzel bites, and I can sometimes snag newspaper coupons for up to 50 cents off per bag. You might also find coupons for Heinz ketchup, Kraft barbecue sauce and Vlasic pickle products, which may be available at Dollar Tree.
Here are 10 of my favorite summer items to buy at Dollar Tree.

Flip Flops
Flip flops are not usually a high-quality shoe, regardless of where you buy them. They also tend to get lost or left at pools, and your kids will outgrow them every year. At Dollar Tree, you can pick up a few pairs for each family member so you’ll be set for the whole summer.
Outdoor Toys
Whether your kids like sidewalk chalk, squirt guns, jump ropes or bubble makers, Dollar Tree has you covered. You’ll also find hula hoops along with sand toys and swimming accessories such as goggles.
Cold Foods
Your local dollar store is THE place to get your popsicles, ice cream sandwiches and other frozen treats. Plus, you can grab cheese for your burgers.
Munchies
Whether you need snacks for a road trip or munchies for a party, you’ll find nearly everything you need at the dollar store. You’ll see both brand-name and off-brand merchandise.
My kids are especially fond of the snack pretzels with cheese dip and the Slim Jims. You can also grab all sorts of drinks, including water, juice and soda.
Picnic Supplies
Pick up your disposable tablecloths, plastic utensils, paper plates and cups, and almost anything else you need for throwing an outdoor party or just having a family picnic.
You’ll also find bread, buns, mustard, ketchup, horseradish sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper, spices, pickles and olives.
Emergency Kit Supplies
Summer is both the time of sunshine and the time of severe weather such as hurricanes. At the dollar store, you can pick up some of the most important supplies for your home’s emergency kit. Grab some LED flashlights, extra alkaline batteries, wet wipes and a manual can opener, for example.
You can also stock up on non-perishable foods for your pantry, including Vienna sausages and tuna salad lunch kits.
Party Supplies
Dollar Tree sells balloons and party decorations for every season. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, baby shower, bridal shower, wedding reception, graduation, Independence Day or some other occasion, you can surely get what you need at the dollar store.
Grilling Stuff
Pick up all types of grilling tools at the dollar store, along with grill cleaner. While you’re at it, grab some grilling pans and foil wraps
Gardening Supplies
Get your gardening gloves and tools for only $1.00 each at the dollar store. You can also pick up small bags of potting soil, planters, seeds, mats, hoseheads and lawn décor. There are weed barriers, too, and even bird feeders.
Home Improvement Essentials
I wanted to kick myself the last time I visited Dollar Tree and saw most of the painting supplies I had recently purchased at a home improvement store. I should have thought that the dollar store would sell paint brushes and rollers, too!
I knew that they sell a variety of different tools, including hammers, pliers and screwdrivers. From now on, I’ll definitely check the dollar store before buying any type of home repair or home improvement supplies.
